Apple Music’s Biggest Threat May Be to Broadcast Radio

There has been a lot of talk since Apple acquired Beats last year about the impact the re-introduced streaming service could have on the industry. When it first came to market, there was widespread speculation that Beats might take market share from Spotify. That didn’t happen. Spotify’s growth only accelerated and Beats all but shut down after the Apple acquisition. Though Yesterday, Apple Music was announced and it sounds very Spotify-like.

JAX = jaccapps + audio + XAPP Ads. jacapps’ large network of over 300 radio broadcasters were looking for something new that would attract advertiser interest and drive mobile revenue, which XAPP can deliver.

Streaming is a Growth Opportunity for Broadcast Radio

As we mentioned in Part One of this series last week, consumers are voting with their ears. Internet radio was not displacing much broadcast radio listening when it was primarily a desktop computer phenomenon. That has changed with the rise of mobile devices. Whether it's the convenience, choice, personalization or lower ad loads, more consumers are listening to Internet radio on mobile and they are increasing their time spent listening each year.
